Wooster Community Hospital Lowers CT Radiation Dose with the Help of Alpha Imaging
When Wooster Community Hospital (WCH) wanted to reduce CT radiation doses to their patients they called on Alpha Imaging.
With public concern over CT radiation dose at an all-time-high, WCH took a proactive approach to addressing patient concerns about CT procedures. “We don’t want people to stop having CT scans out of fear. They are a necessary diagnostic tool for the accurate diagnosis of disease and injury,” says Dr. Gabriele Pedicelli, Radiologist at WCH.
In order to reduce CT doses without compromising diagnostic image quality, WCH worked with Alpha Imaging to implement the Sapheneia Clarity™ CT dose reduction solution. Clarity enhances the image quality of lower dose CT studies and automatically routes them to PACS and/or diagnostic workstations. It is compatible with any CT scanner regardless of make, model or age.
“I must admit we were skeptical at first. It sounded too good to be true. But the team at Alpha Imaging and the Clarity product really delivered. We’ve lowered our doses by as much as 40% in some cases and standardized protocols across multiple scanners without disruption to our clinical workflow.” according to Dave Harrison, Imaging Services Manager at WCH.
Wooster Community Hospital installed the Clarity dose reduction product on all of their CT scanners – both inside the main hospital and at their HealthPoint outpatient imaging facility. Every patient getting a CT examination at WCH now has access to this advanced, dose-optimization technology. “The goal of our implementation was to achieve dose reduction on all CT scanners across our facilities. We have accomplished this, and have done the right thing for the community without sacrificing diagnostic quality,” said Harrison.
Serving a population of well over 100,000 throughout Wayne County, Ohio, WCH has invested in state-of-the-art healthcare technology for over sixty years. A true partner with the community, Wooster Community Hospital always strives to put the patient first.
